The Basics

What Is a Returns Processing Service?

Returns processing is the handling of a product after a customer sends it back — receiving it, inspecting its condition, deciding whether it goes back into sellable inventory (sometimes after repackaging) or gets set aside, and updating your records so your store reflects the real count. Industry-wide, this is also called returns management or, more broadly, reverse logistics. Handled well, it protects your margin on every return instead of turning each one into a second cost on top of the lost sale. At eFulfillment Service, our Returns Team inspects and sorts every returned item, then follows the instructions you set — restock, hold, or discard — before your inventory count ever changes. Returns are one part of a complete eCommerce fulfillment operation.

How Returns Processing Works at EFS

STEP 1

Return Instructions in Every Box

Your custom return instructions print on every packing slip, and update instantly in our system whenever your policy changes.

STEP 2

Careful Inspection & Sorting

Our Returns Team inspects and sorts each item by condition, with quality-control checks available, and emails you as soon as it's processed.

STEP 3

You Choose the Outcome

Undamaged merchandise is held for your call on restocking. Damaged items are stored separately and discarded or returned to you, per your preference.

STEP 4

Our Errors, Our Cost

If a return happens because of an EFS picking or packing mistake, we reship your customer immediately at no charge — and investigate the cause so it doesn't repeat.
